I mean it's OK, but I think too many of them are cut up. You should immediately send all the trimmed ones to me for disposal. I wouldn't want them to ruin your collection.

Great job buddy. That is one serious accomplishment. Congrats.

Default Follow-up

I appreciate the kind words. I started the set in 2010, but I was only planning to collect the HOF players at that time. In February 2015 I flew to Detroit to purchase the collection of the Tigers ballboy from 1934-35, which included over 90 signed 33 Goudeys. In October 2015 I purchased Sean Brennan's amazing Goudey collection. Among the HOFers I already had and the two collections I purchased I was right around the 200 mark, so I began trying for the set in earnest. Huggins and Scott sold a large collection last August. I added four that I needed from that auction. The only one I've seen for auction and missed was Earl Clark. A friend who is also working on the set bought it for $16,500. I wasn't willing to pay that much, but I have since regretted that as he died in 1938 and another one may not exist. I have around 30 that the PSA population report lists as 1 of 1. Moe Berg and Tris Speaker are probably my two favorites.

I recently added a Pete Appleton through Weiss Auctions and an Adolfo Luque through a private sale. Both are awaiting PSA authentication, but I expect both to pass which will put me at 219/239. I think completing the set may be possible, but it won't be easy or fast. My want list is so short that I'll be lucky to find one a year that I need. Obviously, I greatly appreciate any leads on any that I do still need. My current want list is:

Want list:

32 Bud Clancy (d. 68)
38 Fred Brickell (d. 61)
54 Ray Kremer (d. 65)
57 Earl Clark (d. 38)
66 George Grantham (d. 54)
70 Pete Scott (d. 53)
78 Jack Quinn (d. 46)
85 Heine Sand (d. 58)
86 Phil Todt (d. 73)
88 Russell Rollings (d. 64)
90 Jess Petty (d. 71)
105 Bernie Friberg (d. 58)
115 Cliff Heathcote (d. 39)
118 Val Picinich (d. 42)
149 Babe Ruth (d. 48)
160 Lou Gehrig (d. 41)
170 Harry McCurdy (d. 72)
172 Billy Hargrave (d. 42)
173 Roscoe Holm (d. 50)
175 Dan Howley (d. 44)

That is an amazing set to put together. Congratulations on all the work and perseverance!

It's not on your wantlist, but don't forget there is one autographed Lajoie in existence

Good luck in your search.

Steve

By nature I am not a person that it is easily impressed BUT that collection is one of the most impressive things I have ever seen.
Good Luck on completing it !
By the way do you how many complete signed sets there are in existence ?
Also I did nor see the Lajoie card listed ,do you know of a Lajoie signed card or are you not counting it for your collection ?

I appreciate it. My 33 Goudey set is almost certainly the most complete signed 33 Goudey set in existence. The next closest set I know of is currently around 20 short of mine. I would obviously love to add the Lajoie signed Goudey, but I don't consider that a true 33 Goudey. It was released in 1934 to appease collectors who complained about the missing card number.

I always thought that in terms of appearance, it looks more like a 1934 Goudey than a 1933 Goudey, with that play at the plate illustration in the background.

Wink

I love this collection, but I can't figure out for the life of me why you dipped your toes into the deep dark waters of signed T206 cards! Stay focused on cards from after World War I please!

Nope Nope Nope. Go full steam into prewar, Jason. You know you hate those 34 Goudeys. They are ugly ugly cards right?
