The Dunlap was my first, but the King is my favorite Goodwin...along with the Allen and Ginter Ward, they're my favorite 19th Century Cards:

MY BIG CONCERNS ABOUT AMERICA:

Internally- We spend too much time assuring our rights without learning the responsibilities that should accompany them.
Externally - No matter how much we claim to take the higher moral ground, we have neither respected nor attempted to understand other cultures.

Hey Raymond

We think the same.....the N162 Kelly is in my top 5 favorite BB card's in my entire collection. Note how the artist painted storm clouds behind him (matching his personality).

Ted and the rest of the board,

The Dunlap "Detroit" is a fantasy card I made (photoshopped). I can remember the old SCD checklist (BB card checklist bible of sorts) indicating both the "Detroit" and "Pittsburg" versions of the card and the guide indicated that the "Pitt" card was the more expensive of the two (which to me meant the scarcer of the two variations). I looked high and low for that damn card and could never find a Detroit version. The conclusion was that one did not exist and the SCD guide had a mistake (yeah, that happens). I finally got a wild hair up my rear and decided to make the card and see if anybody had any comments on it if I put it in the BST.... not a comment. Joe G joined in the fun and we waited for something.... nada...

When I saw this thread I thought it would be fun to throw it in there just to see if anybody had any comments. I figured it would be in the main thread and get more visibility. It would have been really funny if someone else photoshopped one and posted the picture because I would have crapped my pants and tried to get the card, but I know better, it just doesn't exist.....

I was going to let this ride for a few days but I have too much respect for the old timers on this board that have been collecting for a long time.

Ted, my apologies if it disrupted your thread. I just wanted to have a little fun.

What a Superbowl game.... no TDs for more than three quarters... a few interesting records.... longest punt (incredible bounce) and least points scored by a team in the Superbowl. Great Bud Light commercials with the corn syrup!

Just curious, not to highjack the thread, how much do people think a Detroit Dunlap N162 would be worth if only 3 or 4 were known to exist? I'd pay dearly for one.

Very funny, Fred. I keep notes in a spiral notebook about cards and auctions. Here's what I wrote today..."Sports.ha Evers, n162 dunlap detroit, 350 no frame 37 cards, Bill Watkins $643, 1970 Pontiac Le Mans 4 door." I just scratched the n162 Dunlap Detroit.

My only example. It has back damage, but does have the trademark.

Although, I was convinced (years ago) that the Detroit version did not exist, you had me wondering all day today.

Apologies not necessary.....you brought some excitement to this forum.

Anyhow, what would it be worth you ask ? In today's crazy market the sky is the limit

Take care,

I fell for Fred's photoshopping, and that's why I deleted part of my previous post. I thought I was starting some lively discussion, but it wasn't meant to be.

Yep. I tried to buy it off you. I couldn't figure out why "captain" was on it. He wasn't captain of Detroit. I didn't comment because I didn't know the rarity of it until I did some research. Glad you fessed up - it's been bugging the hell out of me!

Here's my Dan Brouthers: There seems to be a bluer version, which I actually like much better.

Default I remembered this as well (albeit a distant memory)

"I can remember the old SCD checklist (BB card checklist bible of sorts) indicating both the "Detroit" and "Pittsburg" versions of the card." I collected the set about 20 years ago and went off in another direction. With OMG and CRS I forgot all about it when I started the set again sometime in mid 2000's. A recent call from a hobby friend asked me about the Detroit version - which triggered a memory. Unfortunately the memory was apparently one of seeing that entry.
So to be clear - NO-ONE HAS SOLD BOUGHT OR HAS A DETROIT VERSION and it was just a photoshopping frankenmonster?

Shameless shout out - I'm missing TWO common cards to complete the set - Myers and Teemer………..
